Mobile handsets importers in Bangladesh will not allowed to import any mobile phone handset without Bangla keypad after January 31, 2012. They must import mobile phone handset with Bangla keypad. The decision has been taken by The BTRC, Bangladesh Bangladesh Telecommunication Regularity Commission.
BTRC Chairmen said their decision will promote Bangla language and make mobile phones more user friendly to all general people of Bangladesh. At present only few mobile phone sets available with Bangla Keypad.
BTRC also said foreign companies cannot import cellphones directly. They have to bring mobile phones through 100% locally owned companies. Bangladesh Mobile Phone Importers Association welcomed this decision of BTRC. Currently around 50 local entrepreneurs import cell phone handsets from different countries.
