Robi Axiata Limited, a leading mobile phone operator in Bangladesh has introduced a mobile based agricultural service called “Robi Haat-bazaar”. The service has two components: Bazaar Dor and Krishibazaar. “Bazar Dor” provides updated market price of agricultural products and “Krisibazar” working as a media of trading agricultural goods.
It organizes district wise agri-goods information. Robi Haat Bazaar user can record his own advertisements for potential buyers or can listen other advertisements by other sellers and can make a deal instantly.
All information will be update on weekly basis. All recorded advertisements will be stored in the system for 7 days, after 7 days the ads will be deleted from the system automatically. However, an user can record his advertisement again for future trading. Robi subscribers can dial 2474 and follow the instructions to use this service. The cost is Tk 0.99+VAT per minute.
Another mobile operator in bangladesh Banglalink also provides similar service which is called Bangla Link krishi bazaar.

Bangladesh Power Development Board signed three agreements with Orion Group Bangladesh for setting up three coal-fired power plants with total capacity of 1,087 megawatt. Orion group will build two plants in Khulna and Chittagong with the capacity of 282.67 MW each and one in Munshiganj of 522MW capacity. All three plants will use imported coal to generate electricity. It is the first time in Bangladesh, a local private company will establish coal based power plant. Currently Bangladesh has only one state owned coal based power plant in Dinajpur. Orion Group Chairman Salman Obaidul Karim said they already bought necessary lands and started development works, the projects to be completed within 45 months and the total cost is $1.4 billion.
Power development board also signed an agreement with Solarium Power Limited to build a solar based power plant. Solarium will setup a solar power plant in Mymensingh with the capacity of 18 MW. The Managing Director of Solarium, Nazmul Abedin said, the plant will cost Tk. 235 crore, they expected that the plant will be able to supply electricity in two years time.

LG Electronics, a South Korean Electronics giant will set up a factory to assemble electronics products in Bangladesh. They will invest $500 million to establish this plant as a joint venture with local LG products distributor Butterfly Marketing Limited. Electronic products such as Television, air-conditioner, washing machine and other home appliances will produce from this factory to supply the local market.
The first phase of this project will start in 2012 and the location of the plant will be at Bhaluka in Mymensingh, an official of Butterfly Marketing said to a local newspaper. The official also said, the proposed LG plant in Bangladesh will create 5000 new jobs for local people.
LG Electronics Vice President Junhwan Kim is visiting Bangladesh now to see investment opportunities in the country. The delegation of LG called on Industries Minister Dilip Barua and appealed to Bangladesh Government for allocating land in a special economic zone for future investment.

Mobile handsets importers in Bangladesh will not allowed to import any mobile phone handset without Bangla keypad after January 31, 2012. They must import mobile phone handset with Bangla keypad. The decision has been taken by The BTRC, Bangladesh Bangladesh Telecommunication Regularity Commission.
BTRC Chairmen said their decision will promote Bangla language and make mobile phones more user friendly to all general people of Bangladesh. At present only few mobile phone sets available with Bangla Keypad.
BTRC also said foreign companies cannot import cellphones directly. They have to bring mobile phones through 100% locally owned companies. Bangladesh Mobile Phone Importers Association welcomed this decision of BTRC. Currently around 50 local entrepreneurs import cell phone handsets from different countries.

A New Driving School named “Nitol-Tata Driving School” opens today in Kishoreganj District Bangladesh. The school was jointly set up by Bangladeshi Automobile company Nitol Motors and Leading Indian company TATA Motors to produce skilled drivers.
The total area of this school is over 15 acres. It has hostel facilities, can accommodate 500 people at a time. The admission fee is Taka 7,500 and tuition fees Taka 9,000.
Nitol-Niloy Group Chairman Abdul Matlub Ahmed said The school will provide driving and mechanical training in cars and light and heavy commercial vehicles.
